EDUCATION: URBANMAAPAsthma Survey Project1. Planning and TrainingYou may wish to use the Asthma Survey Checklist to schedule your activities. The teacher should select on-line project background materials to assign as readings. (See the asthma references in the Library and Classroom.) Each student on the research team should take the survey and then the team should discuss the survey and project background.
Students should practice reading the introduction to the survey so they will be prepared to help give the survey in the designated class periods Students should practice entering survey data into the spreadsheet. Use the data collected from the surveys they completed themselves during training 2. Data CollectionConduct the survey according to the Collection Guidelines. Do not forget to circulate the Parental Permission Letter before conducting your survey. Use the standardized Spring 2002 Asthma Survey so that the students at your school answer the same questions as do students at other schools. Enter the survey results from your school into the Spring 2002 Excel Spreadsheet. 3. Obtain Data from Past SurveysIf you will be performing one of the suggested research projects, you may wish to use the results from some of the past asthma surveys. Please note that the survey questions have changed over time, so you will need to closely examine each dataset before attempting to combine with that of any other time period.
